Fiji Vacation Cost: How Much Does it Cost in 2023?

Fiji is the ultimate castaway tropical island dream. So much so, they filmed Tom Hanks’ movie Castaway here. Within the 100 inhabited islands, you’ll find options ranging from backpacker hostels to extreme luxury honeymoon resorts. Read on to find out how much a Fiji vacation would cost in 2023.

Why is Fiji a popular destination?

Set in the South Pacific Ocean, Fiji’s white sands, coral reefs, coconut trees and the welcoming local population make it a great vacation spot. If you’re into water sports, take your pick from snorkeling, diving, surfing, kayaking, and sailing. It’s also become one of the hotspots for honeymooners, searching for a dreamy luxury break in an overwater bungalow.

Costs of Hotels in Fiji

As with everywhere hotels in Fiji vary greatly in price depending on amenities offered and location. First you have to pick an island to stay on. Here are the most popular:

  • Viti Levu

Great for those on a budget, Viti Levu is the largest island. It is more built up and residential than other islands but there are some amazing pockets such as Denarau Island and you won't have to pay for any further transportation.

  • Mamanuca

Incredible beaches and snorkeling make these islands popular with all tourists and there is a whole range of accommodation, from hostels to resorts.

  • Yasawa Islands

These islands are more remote with no large towns, so accommodation is more rustic. Backpackers and those on a budget looking for an authentic Fijian experience love these islands.

  • Taveuni

Taveuni is for those looking for more than drinking cocktails by the pool. Lush rainforests, hiking trails and waterfalls will keep adventurers busy.

Average cost per day for a tourist in Fiji

For a backpacker style break we recommend budgeting about $90 a day for everything you’ll need in Fiji. Mid-range tourists will be about $200 and at the higher end of the scale you could spend $450 a day. Everything depends on how much travel you do, where you eat and if you want to do paid activities.

How much does dining out cost in Fiji?

Fiji may be known as a luxury travel destination, but it can be as cheap or expensive as you like. On a small budget, there are plenty of family-run cafes dotted around the country where you can get a simple lunch. If your budget is bigger, the country is your oyster. A seafood meal at a fine dining restaurant will set you back about $25–$27 per person. Bear in mind, Fiji doesn't produce its own wine so all bottles available on the island have to be imported and are at least $20 a bottle.

Public transport is cheap but takes a long time. Taxis are the next option and cost around $0.65 a kilometer. You can hire a car for $600 a week or a scooter for $125 per week. If you want to arrange your own transportation between islands you can get a Bula Pass, a hop-on/hop-off ticket for a catamaran that makes daily trips to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. Passes last between 5-15 days and prices start at $208.

  • Biasevu waterfall: on Nadi’s coral coast only requires a small fee to help maintain the walking paths and is a tropical delight.
  • SUP or kayak: rental is usually included with hotels or doesn’t cost very much, so paddle away to your heart's content.
  • Kula Eco Park: is home to many tropical creatures and is a top environmental attraction.
  • Chill by the pool: Hey, you’re on Fiji time now, no need to do much at all.

Long story short...
